SRP Special Events

  Summer Reading Program Special Events:  Wednesdays, JUNE 20-AUGUST 15 from 2:30-3:15    June 20: Passport to Animal AdventureMeet animals from around the world and learn how they survive each and every day.  From deserts to swamps, from hunting to hiding, animals are perfectly suited for the adventures they face in their homes – no matter where in the world they live.  Animals may include a fox, tegu, and kestrel. The program is presented by Pacific Animal Productions.

 June 27:  Crazy about Chemistry: Let our zany professor guide you through a gooey, slippery, slimy, and smoky world of chemistry!  Prof. Richard Rumble will perform experiments and show how everyday household items can be transformed using the principles of chemistry.  The program is presented by Full Spectrum Educational Services.

July 11:  South American Adventure :  An interactive, musical, and multicultural storytelling adventure where audiences experience the geography, music, cultures, legends, and languages from peoples south of the USA. Georgette Baker is a teacher and world-traveler.  She weaves stories, and introduces scientific facts, biology, and artifacts into this participatory program.  Children will have the chance to see and touch a table full of exotic items from Central and South America.  Presented by Dream Shapers.

July 18: Mad Science: Jangala Book:  Mad Science will guide kids’ imaginations by taking them through the jungle!  The Sanskrit word, “jangala,” is the origin of the word, “jungle,” a dense region within a tropical rainforest that receives lots of direct sunlight.  We will explore the jungle by listening to sounds, discovering creatures, and experimenting with the chemical elements found in some plants and insects.

July 25: Amazing Dana:  Come be amazed by the magical prowess of Amazing Dana!  The program includes audience participation and comedy.

August 1:  Marine Mammal ID:  Learn about seals, whales, dolphins and more!  Plus, meet local marine scientists and get a close-up look at some preserved specimens.  Presented by World Below the Waves.

August 8, 2:30-3:30: Literature Comes to Life:  Children from the audience will have a chance to act out Whale Is Stuck: An Arctic Adventure, a storybook written by Karen Hayles. Stacey Wein, teacher and children’s theater actress, provides expert direction and luxurious costumes.  A fun way for kids to build confidence and oral skills!

August 15: Hullabaloo:  Come listen to quality music the whole family can enjoy!  You’ll hear traces of twang, funk, rock, folk and blues in Hullabaloo’s songs.  Kids will be inspired to laugh, think, sing, dance, clap and stomp their feet.  This is our final Summer Reading Program show!  Please be sure to pick up a Fall Events calendar, and continue to join us for other fun programs.
